- just because you really like a shirt and want to wear it two days in a row and cut a button off the front just so if people try to call you out on it you can say "oh yea, well yesterday my shirt had THREE buttons on it, but this one has TWO" doesn't mean your mom will fall for it and let you wear it (grade school).
- when you literally tell the hairdresser "i want it to look like there is a bowl on my head" that is exactly what your hair will look like (grade school)
- your friends/school mates will still know that it is YOUR dad driving that station wagon even if YOU dive into the back seat after sports practices and lay flat and don't look up until he has driven away (jr. high).
- the lyrics to Eye of the Tiger are not "eye of the tiger it's the cream of the crop" (undisclosed time frame that was not that long ago).

(Aren't you glad you're friends with me? Anyone!?)
As Tom and I have tackled a new city, started living together, and taken on new careers we have certainly been learning lessons daily. One that Tom has learned recently: yes, it does look like a small long-haired dog was just groomed all over our apartment, but that hair has actually just fell out of my head without me knowing it. Sorry 'bout that.
I have learned lessons at work about how even though I am comfortable with all the charting and assessments with stable patients, I still want to pee my pants and run down the hall screaming when they go downhill. There will be MANY more lessons to learn on that subject.
Fun lessons we have learned recently have been sports related. First, we have learned how to mumble along to the "Bear Down, Chicago Bears" after a touchdown with the other 100+ Chicago Bears fans that we watch games with at The Iron Bull. Tom's dad knows a Seattlite who is a Bears super fan, so we were introduced to this place by him. It has been fun to see all the people supporting a team so far away! I am a default Bears fan now, I guess. I have a shirt sooo...
The next sports related lesson goes as follows. When you wear a red Chicago Fire soccer jersey/scarf to an establishment filled with green Seattle Sounders jerseys, you will get chanted at (WHO ARE YA'? WHO ARE YA'?), pointed at, and they will be serious. BUT it will still make you friends that like the city of Chicago AND it will help you recognize lots of random people that graduated from Purdue AND will help you find out that the doorman at the stadium went to Ball State. The game we went to was the US open game with the match up obviously being Seattle vs Chicago. It was a great game to see, and probably the best soccer game we've ever seen live! But Chicago lost :(
Start a vacation savings account to learn lessons with us on your trip here! We could see a Bears game at the Iron Bull, rock out to Eye of the Tiger (with the correct lyrics), and get our hair cut. Bring your own bowl! I just have to say, though, if you roll up in a woody station wagon I WILL disown you. Too many traumatizing years in the Walter wagon...tooooo many years. So, go northWEST YOUNG PEOPLE (and young people at heart)!
